Skycell assessed for less than 0.05% temperature excursion rate

In the world of pharmaceuticals, even slight temperature fluctuations can compromise the efficacy and safety of life-changing medications. Maintaining the highest quality standards is not just an aspiration; it’s an absolute necessity.

According to IQVIA Institute for Human Data Science, the biopharma industry loses approximately $35 billion annually as a result of failures in temperature-controlled logistics (data first shared in the 2019 Biopharma Cold Chain Logistics Survey Report). At SkyCell, we understand the critical importance of ensuring the integrity of pharmaceuticals throughout the supply chain.

That’s why we’re proud to announce we have undergone an external assessment conducted by a global top-3 auditor, confirming a temperature excursion rate of less than 0.05%

SkyCell's Remarkable 0.05% Excursion Rate

A new standard in excellence

At the heart of our operations lies an unwavering commitment to continuous improvement and strict adherence to stringent quality control measures. For the past six years, a top-3-global auditor has confirmed that our hybrid container solutions reduce temperature excursion rates to less than 0.1%.

We’ve taken another step in our pursuit of excellence and dedication this year. Our excursion rate has been revealed to be less than 0.05%, halving our previously assessed rate.

This signifies an exceptionally high level of precision and reliability in maintaining required temperatures throughout the entire pharmaceutical supply chain. It sets a new standard in the pharmaceutical industry, with a typical rate of between 1% – 5%

Our result is a testament to the unwavering efforts and dedication of every single team member at SkyCell. We’re proud to be a leading provider in the pharmaceutical supply chain industry that our partners and customers can rely on.

The key ingredients according to Nicola Caristo, Quality Lead SkyCell:

“SkyCell is able to lead the industry with less than 0.05% temperature excursions because of our technology, quality systems and the quality mindset of the organisation.”

Unwavering Dedication

Our journey towards excellence is not a destination but a continuous pursuit. As our company grows and our operations extend, we steadfastly uphold our unwavering quality standards, ensuring they not only endure but also evolve in tandem with our progress.

At SkyCell, we know that achieving high-quality standards is not a one-time feat but a continual effort. As such, our recent success in achieving a 0.05% excursion rate is a significant milestone, but it also serves as a stepping stone on our path to meeting and exceeding industry expectations.

Central to this is our proactive approach to quality management. Rather than simply reacting to new developments, regulations, and standards, we aim to be at the forefront of defining and setting industry expectations.

We’ve continuously made significant investments in our solutions as part of this approach. These solutions empower our partners and customers to be proactive in dealing with any potential temperature excursions or delays.

Our hybrid containers protect the security of medicine to the highest standards, while SkyMind provides detailed real-time data and accurate predictions about the cargo, monitoring the location, condition, documentation, and other factors. This protects medicine while alerting users to potential issues, allowing them to implement corrective measures.

We’ve recently extended SkyMind’s use to a tracking-as-a-service model as part of our goal of connecting people and products seamlessly while building a sustainable supply chain that protects the planet and the people who live on it.

These developments and our incredibly low excursion rate drastically minimize the risk of product loss while enhancing operational efficiency, ultimately contributing to lower costs, reduced emissions, and increased reliability.

“SkyCell’s technology is engineered to handle extreme temperatures and long independent runtimes (270+ hours), while also addressing critical process challenges. For instance, it avoids airport unloading through its door-to-door capabilities. This is made possible by its single pallet design, which offers greater ease of handling compared to multi-pallet solutions. Moreover, it combines hardware with software and IoT, forming what we term as S+O data.”

Future Outlook

At SkyCell, we envision a future where pharmaceutical supply chains are efficient, reliable, and predictable. Additionally, we maintain a steadfast commitment to sustainability, recognizing that it is integral to achieving true excellence. By continuously innovating and prioritizing sustainability, SkyCell aims to become a leading force in shaping the future of the pharmaceutical supply chain industry.
