Deliver & Return with Ease: SkyCell Seamless Service from Origin to Destination
Today, 70% of pharmaceuticals are shipped in one-way solutions1, which are usually discarded and sent to landfills. However, the pharmaceutical cold chain market is expected to grow from $6.4 billion in 2024 to $9.6 billion in 20352, with most of this growth coming from reusable packaging — set to far outpace disposal solutions.
As the industry transitions to more sustainable, reusable solutions, new challenges arise in effectively delivering and returning containers. One of the biggest challenges is the import and export process, particularly in critical markets like China, Brazil, and India. Additionally, introducing return systems can cause costs to rack up quickly due to additional transportation needs.
SkyCell’s combination of experience, strategic partnerships, and technology, as well as our global logistics network, ensures that we can handle every step of the journey seamlessly — from origin to destination and all the way through the return process — no matter how complex the route.
Door-to-Door Delivery and Returns Across 100+ Countries
Delivering temperature-sensitive cargo worldwide is complex and requires moving containers across borders, navigating customs, coordinating with partners, and maintaining strict temperature controls, all while avoiding delays.
According to IATA, more than 50% of temperature excursions occur at airports, particularly at customs clearance as containers are opened or unloaded, exposing their contents to hot or cold air. SkyCell’s door-to-door service with established customs processes eliminates this risk and addresses these challenges head-on, ensuring smooth, efficient, and predictable global cold-chain transportation.
Leveraging our extensive logistics network, customs and processes expertise, advanced technology, and strategic partnerships, SkyCell streamlines every stage of the delivery process.
With service centers and collection and drop-off points worldwide, SkyCell offers truly global coverage — wherever you are. 1500X hybrid containers can be delivered to your preferred destination within 24-72 hours, offering unparalleled availability.
Recognizing the importance of reverse logistics, SkyCell addresses one of its biggest challenges — building a scalable, cost-effective network. The established global network and rental system allow the entire return process to be handled for our customers.
Once containers reach their destination, customers simply leave them at designated drop-off points in or near airports. Each container is then returned, refurbished and preconditioned for its next use.
With SkyCell, both door-to-door delivery and reverse logistics are designed to be cost-effective, flexible, and efficient, providing clients with convenience and value at every stage.
Reliable Performance and Seamless Delivery Across Challenging Routes
Preventing temperature excursions is becoming more and more difficult as temperature extremes become commonplace globally. Thanks to an independently validated excursion rate of less than 0.05%, many pharma companies and their partners have switched to SkyCell to future-proof their supply chain.
This high-performance and seamless service was demonstrated in a recent shipment from Melbourne (MEL) to Brussels (BRU) via Dubai (DXB). Throughout the journey, our customers’ pharmaceutical products required precise temperature maintenance within a range of +15°C to +25°C.
At the start of the lease, preconditioned SkyCell 1500X hybrid containers were handed over and filled in Melbourne to begin their journey. At Melbourne Airport, the well-established customs solutions ensured a smooth process. With robust customs clearance procedures in place globally, we can ensure timely and compliant deliveries that avoid the delays commonly associated with international shipping.
The containers quickly passed through customs and were loaded onto the airplane, with the ambient temperature dropping to a cool 8.3°C in Melbourne. However, during the layover in Dubai, external temperatures soared to blistering 58.1°C.
Despite extreme temperature variations, SkyCell’s 1500X containers maintained stable internal temperatures with only a 1.5°C variance. With an independent runtime of 270 hours, hybrid containers are uniquely suited to long, complex routes. Unlike active containers, there’s no need for electrical power or plugs, offering greater flexibility and reliability on challenging journeys.
From Dubai, the containers were flown to Brussels and transported to their final destination. Then, our customer simply dropped off the empty containers at our partner’s warehouse near Brussels Airport. From here, SkyCell transported them to the service center in Brussels to be cleaned, refurbished, and preconditioned for their next journey.
