1500X Hybrid Container: Reduce Your CO2 Emissions by up to 50%
The 1500X hybrid container is SkyCell’s most sustainable solution to date. By combining a lightweight, high-capacity design with a circular economy approach, it reduces CO2 emissions by up to 50% compared to traditional passive packaging solutions.
Air freight is the biggest contributor to logistics emissions, making container weight and internal volume crucial considerations when designing packaging. With its low weight (379 kg) and high internal capacity, the 1500X enables pharma companies to transport more products per shipment. This means fewer shipments are needed, resulting in reduced flights, lower costs, and a significantly smaller carbon footprint.
Additionally, the reusable hybrid containers are constructed with high-performance materials designed for both durability and extended lifecycle. This approach enables the implementation of a circular economy model where containers are leased, returned, refurbished, and reused. Rather than discarding containers after limited use, they are reintegrated into the supply chain, maximizing their lifespan and minimizing waste.
Thanks to the circular economy approach and the optimized design of the hybrid containers, a typical SkyCell pharma customer can prevent an average of 60,000 tCO2e from entering the atmosphere per year. To achieve the same emissions reduction through permanent carbon removal methods would cost around $12 million per year.
Sustainability Without Compromise on Performance
Recently, a shipment from Paris Charles de Gaulle (CDG) to Manila (MNL) showcased the efficiency of the 1500X hybrid container in reducing carbon impact while protecting sensitive pharmaceuticals.
Over the four-day shipment external temperatures ranged from a chilly +2.4°C to a sunny +28.7°C. However, due to the exceptional performance of the 1500X hybrid container with an excursion rate of less than 0.05%, the internal temperature stayed strictly within +3°C and +5.2°C.
Equally impressive were the sustainability gains: each 1500X hybrid container saved an estimated 14 tCO2e and also achieved substantial cost savings compared to traditional passive container options.
